Note: In and around 1920, Hilda traveled with William to Montana where William and partners owned considerable amounts of land. It was there where she was witness to a true old-west style gun fight between two men. It is not know if she knew either of the men but it is believed she did not. It is known that William tried to keep her from seeing it but she insisted on watching. Witnessing the killing had a considerable psychological effect on Hilda and gave her nightmares. Later she would seek professional treatment at a psychological institution where she evemtually passed away. Her orders were to have her body cremated and buried in the tomb in Oshkosh where William was laid to rest. The cremation was performed in Minneapolis, MN.
